Transfer News: Tottenham eyeing January move for Lorenzo Insigne

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Napoli and Italian superstar Lorenzo Insigne whose contract expires in the summer of 2022.

According to Fichajes, Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in making a move for Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne.

Insigne has been at Napoli since 2010. He has since made 415 appearances for the Gli Azzurriscoring 114 goals and assisting 91 more. A club legend, he is just one strike away from matching the legendary Diego Maradona’s goal tally for the Serie A side.

Antonio Conte is an admirer of the 30-year-old’s talents and would welcome his addition to the Tottenham squad. The Italian manager has a huge job ahead of him as he looks to take Spurs back into the top four of the Premier League. Making the right additions this Janaury could help him speed up that process.

Tottenham have a talented squad on paper, but not everyone has pulled their weight this season. Son Heung-min continues to be consistent and is the club’s leading goalscorer and join top assist-getter this season. The likes of Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn have had their moments but have failed to produce the results consistently.

Add to it the struggles of Harry Kane, and it is clear that attacking reinforcements are needed soon. So, Insigne would be a viable target and could also be available on the cheap given his contract situation with Napoli. The Italian is currently in the final year of his contract and will see it run out in 2022. With negotiations getting nowhere, Napoli could decide to cash in on him this January.

This works well for Tottenham, who could land Insigne for a lower price next month. Spurs have had several games postponed due to the latest Covid-19 outbreak recently. With the matches set to be played later, Spurs can expect a busy second half to the 2021/22 season.

Apart from quality, squad depth will also play a major role in obtaining the necessary results. Tottenham need reinforcements, and landing Insigne would undoubtedly be a wise move. Despite turning 30, Insigne remains a top player. He has several years left in him and could become a centre-piece for Conte at N-17. Pacy and intelligent, the Italian is a difficult player to mark.

Playing him alongside the likes of Son and Kane could take Spurs to the next level. The Italian international is an experienced hand who can slot in anywhere along the frontline and has the potential to be an excellent addition to the Spurs squad. He will bring some much-needed ingenuity and imagination to the north London side’s attacking unit.
