Real Madrid are reportedly monitoring the situation of Paris Saint-Germain winger Pablo Sarabia, who is currently on loan at Sporting CP.
According to a report from El Nacional, Real Madrid are keeping close tabs on 29-year-old Paris Saint-Germain forward Pablo Sarabia, who is impressing away on loan at Portuguese outfit Sporting CP.
Sarabia came through the youth ranks at Real Madrid but could never make the grade for the first team. The versatile winger left the club for Sevilla in 2011, where he spent five years before joining Sevilla. After three seasons with Los Nervionenses, during which he made a huge impression, he was signed up by Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2019.
Since moving to Paris, Sarabia has been unable to nail down a regular berth in a star-studded squad. And, having contributed 22 goals and 12 assists in 79 matches, the Spaniard was on the move this past summer, signing for Sporting on loan. Since joining the Portuguese champions, he has been in fine form, already racking up five goals and assists apiece in 20 matches.
While the Lions would like to sign Sarabia permanently at the end of the season, his wages of €5 million per year would be too much for Ruben Amorim’s side. So, the 29-year-old will be back at PSG once the campaign is done. But with Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria, Neymar, Julian Draxler all ahead of him in the pecking order, game-time will not be forthcoming.
A move away for Sarabia, thus, makes sense for the 16-time capped Spanish international and Real Madrid are believed to be keeping tabs on the situation. He may have managed just one senior appearance during his first stint for Los Blancos, but they have continued to monitor his development across his career and could now offer him a chance to return.
Real Madrid will lose Gareth Bale at the end of the season with his contract running out, while Eden Hazard’s future also remains uncertain. Furthermore, with there being speculations surrounding Marco Asensio, Real Madrid could do with another attack-minded player in the summer to ensure adequate depth even though Kylian Mbappe’s expected to arrive from PSG.
Sarabia, for his part, is also believed to be open to a return to his boyhood club, while PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is willing to sanction a sale. It remains to be seen if Real Madrid do act on their initial interest and step up their pursuit of the Spanish international.
