Transfer News: Real Madrid considering January move for Corentin Tolisso

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are reportedly providing stiff competition to Real Madrid in the race to sign Corentin Tolisso.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Real Madrid might need to step up their efforts to sign Corentin Tolisso due to rising competition in the race to sign the Frenchman. The Bayern Munich midfielder is also a target for Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Corentin Tolisso joined Bayern Munich from Lyon in July 2017 and has since endured a roller-coaster ride at the Allianz Arena. The Frenchman was impressive in his maiden campaign with the Bavarian giants. However, fitness issues have blighted him in the last few years, gradually rendering him a bit-part player.

To date, the 27-year-old has turned out 109 times for Bayern Munich, chipping in with 19 goals and 15 assists along the way. However, Tolisso’s spell with the Bundesliga champions is nigh on ending, as he is in the final year of his contract with the club and unlikely to pen a renewal. Such a situation has alerted Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

The interest from Real Madrid is understandable, considering Luka Modric is in the twilight of his career. And while the veteran Croat could stick around for a few more years, Real Madrid will need to replace Isco and Dani Ceballos. Both the Spanish midfielders have been deemed surplus to requirements by Los Blancos and will leave the club either in January or next summer.

As for Barcelona, the Catalan giants are the latest entrants in the race to sign TolissoTheir interest perhaps stems from the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Frenkie de Jong and Miralem Pjanic. The Blaugrana will also be attracted by Tolisso’s impending status as a free agent, making him an appealing target.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid could enter the market for a midfielder, as Saul Niguez might be sold permanently next summer. At the same time, Hector Herrera is also linked with a departure from Wanda Metropolitano. As a result, the reigning La Liga champions have been linked with several central midfielders, including Marcelo Brozovic, with Tolisso a viable target.

The emerging interest from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid is forcing Real Madrid to step up their efforts to sign Tolisso. And according to El Nacional, the Spanish giants could launch the offensive for the 27-year-old in the January transfer window. If they do not, the Merengues will need to reach a pre-contract agreement with Tolisso before Barcelona and Atletico Madrid do, thereby setting up an intriguing transfer battle.
