Transfer News: Juventus consider offering part-exchange deal to sign Paul Pogba

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba could be on the move in January with Juventus preparing a part-exchange offer for the Frenchman.

According to a report from Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Serie A giants Juventus are keen on a reunion with Manchester United superstar Paul Pogba and are readying an offer for the midfielder in January.

Pogba spent four years at Juventus between 2012 and 2016 after leaving Manchester United on a free transfer. During his time in Turin, the Frenchman grew into one of the most exciting midfielders in the game, playing a key role in the Bianconeri’s unrivalled domestic success before he sealed a return to Old Trafford in a club-record transfer.

Pogba’s second coming at Manchester United was off to a stunning start as he helped the club to the UEFA Europa League and the Carabao Cup. However, things have not gone according to plans from that point on, with controversies following the midfielder.

Falling out with Jose Mourinho, ill-advised comments in the media from himself and his outspoken agent, Mino Raiola, inconsistent performances in midfield have led to a lot of criticism. However, when in form, the 28-year-old remains one of Manchester United’s best players, as was visible in the early parts of the current campaign, before he was sidelined with an injury.

Pogba’s contract with Manchester United runs out at the end of the season, though, and there have been no indications that he wishes to sign an extension. If anything, his agent Raiola has been dropping hints that the Frenchman could be on the move again. And, instead of waiting till the summer to sign him for free, Juventus are ready to make an attempt to land him in January itself.

The Bianconeri are in a difficult situation, with results not going their way, which has left them staring at the possibility of missing out on Champions League football for next term. The midfield department has been misfiring big time for the Old Lady, with Arthur Melo, Aaron Ramsey, and Adrien Rabiot struggling and linked with exits in January.

Juventus are now looking to offset the potential departures of the aforementioned stars with the addition of Pogba. But considering the lack of funds, the Bianconeri are reportedly considering offering players to Manchester United as part of an exchange deal. The names of left-back Alex Sandro and midfielder Rabiot are mentioned as possible makeweights.

Neither player is likely to appeal a great deal to Manchester United, who have two solid left-backs in Luke Shaw and Alex Telles, while Rabiot’s decline since leaving PSG would alarm them as well. So, it seems highly unlikely that the Turin giants could be set for failure in their attempts to land Pogba in the winter transfer window.
