Federico Bernardeschi has reportedly been contacted by Barcelona, with the 27-year-old Juventus forward viewed as a summer reinforcement.
According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Joan Laporta and Mateu Alemany utilised their recent trip to Turin for the Golden Boy gala efficiently. Barcelona opened talks with 27-year-old Juventus forward Federico Bernardeschi over a possible move in next summer’s transfer window.
Federico Bernardeschi joined Juventus from Fiorentina in July 2017 and has since been a regular feature for the Bianconeri. While the Italian international has not been a consistent performer in this period, he has still maintained his status for club and country, even being involved in Italy’s UEFA Euro 2020 triumph.
To date, the 27-year-old has made 164 appearances for Juventus, amassing ten goals and 22 assists in the process. However, the Serie A giants are in a precarious position over his long-term future, with the player in the final year of his contract. Such a situation seems to have tempted one of the biggest clubs in Europe in Barcelona.
The Catalan giants are set to enter the market for attacking reinforcements in the next two transfer windows, with Xavi beginning his squad overhaul. While signing a striker is a priority for Barcelona following Sergio Aguero’s announcement that he is hanging up his boots, they also have to bring in a wide-attacker.
The need for a winger has been accentuated by Memphis Depay’s recent woes, with recent reports claiming the Dutchman is considering leaving Barcelona. As a result, the La Liga heavyweights have been linked with several wide-attackers in recent weeks.
Some of the players on Barcelona’s radar are Jadon Sancho, Kingsley Coman and Alexis Sanchez, with Bernardeschi emerging as the latest target. The 27-year-old’s agent Federico Pastorello has already been contacted by Barcelona over the prospect of a summer move.
The approach from Barcelona aligns with their recent philosophy of plotting free transfers due to their financial woes. The Blaugrana could stand a good chance of signing Bernardeschi, as he is at an impasse with Juventus over the terms of a new contract. However, the UEFA Euro 2020 winner prefers staying put at the Allianz Arena, so it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can convince him to arrive at Camp Nou instead.
