Transfer News: Brentford in talks to sign Vanderson

Premier League newcomers Brentford are in talks with Gremio for Brazilian full-back Vanderson.

According to the Daily Mail, Premier League side Brentford are currently in talks with Brazilian giants Gremio regarding the transfer for Selecao full-back Vanderson.

The 20-year-old joined the Brazilian side in 2019 and has since gone from strength to strength. A regular for Gremio, his performances have garnered attention from the decision-makers at the Brentford Community Stadium.

Thomas Frank’s side have been following the 20-year-old Brazilian right-back for some time now. An effort was made to land the player last summer, with Gremio seeking £13.5 million for the player’s services. With current negotiations hinting at a deal worth £9.5 million, patience appears to have paid off for Brentford.

Given that Vanderson is yet to feature for the Brazilian national side, getting him a work permit might not prove to be too straightforward. However, the Brazilian’s addition will hand the Bees a massive upgrade in a position where they are in want of quality.

As things stand, Fin Stevens and Mads Rasmussen are the two right-backs in the Brentford squad. While both players are decent, neither of them are what one would call solid or standout. Brentford’s manager, Frank, is fond of the three at the back formation, which has seen him deploy wing-backs in a dual role. While Rasmussen has done well, upgrading him in January could take Brentford’s game to a higher level.

The Bees are enjoying a promising start to life in the English top flight. They defeated Arsenal on opening day and even held the mighty Liverpool to a 3-3 draw at home. Adding new and improved pieces to the squad will only see them scale new heights.

Adding Vanderson will give Brentford a better attacking output on the right flank and hand them a player who is proficient on the dead ball. This could prove decisive in the second half of the campaign.

Brentford are currently in talks with the player and his representatives. There is optimism among all parties that an agreement can be reached soon ahead of the January transfer window. Whether that happens remains to be seen.
