Transfer News: West Ham United battle Newcastle United, Everton for Aaron Ramsey

Premier League clubs are stepping up their interest in Aaron Ramsey as a departure from Juventus in January looks imminent.

According to Transfer Market Web (h/t Tribal Football), Aaron Ramsey is on the radars of several Premier League clubs as a departure from Juventus looks imminent in the January window.

Ramsey’s time at Juventus might be coming to an end, as the Welsh midfielder has struggled since signing on a free transfer from Arsenal in 2019. Once heralded as a top bargain signing for the Italian giants, they are now working to cope with financial difficulties, among other things.

Ramsey has a contract until 2023 and given his age, it is a tricky affair to get him off the books. His wages continue to make a dent in Juventus’ finances, which has prompted reports suggesting he could be allowed to leave on a free.

In terms of matching his wages or coming close to it, Newcastle United are the best placed Premier League side who have shown an interest in the midfielder. The Magpies are embroiled in a difficult relegation battle, and looking at their performances this season; there’s little chance of survival, irrespective of new incomings.

Eddie Howe is hoping to lure the midfielder as part of a lavish transfer business Newcastle are expected to embark on in January. The likes of Ramsey and other experienced, quality stars are being thought of as the blueprint to save the Magpies from a possible relegation at the end of the season.

Everton have also registered an interest, as the Toffees eye a player of the Welshman’s quality to improve their midfield options. They are well-placed in the race and could emerge as favourites as we get closer to January. Rafael Benitez wants to bring in players who could have an immediate impact and improve the club’s fortunes in the short term.

Everton may not be able to match Ramsey’s current wages, although they could offer him attractive terms. The Toffees managed to get high earner James Rodriguez off their books and could direct those funds towards a player of Ramsey’s quality.

West Ham United are also keen on the midfielder. David Moyes remains interested in Ramsey as he eyes quality stars to come in and push his team as they compete on multiple fronts at the highest level.

Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek are overburdened this term with the Hammers competition for the top-four and progress in the Europa League. A player of Ramsey’s quality and experience could help the Moyes ease the pressure on his current first-choice stars, in addition to offering more creativity in the final third.

As things stand, Ramsey’s agent has already met with the Juventus board in recent days. The Bianconeri have made it clear of their intentions to part ways. It remains to be seen if they are prepared to let him leave on a free, although it will be interesting to see which English comes out on top, in the race to sign the former Arsenal superstar.
