Transfer News: Real Madrid offered chance to sign Mauro Icardi

Real Madrid have reportedly been offered the chance to secure the services of 28-year-old Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Mauro Icardi is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the earliest possible opportunity. The 28-year-old striker has been offered to Real Madrid and other clubs over a move in a future transfer window.

Mauro Icardi was once regarded as one of the most underrated strikers during his stint with Inter Milan and served as the club captain at San Siro for several years before sealing an acrimonious exit to Paris Saint-Germain. PSG initially signed the Argentine international on a loan deal before he completed a permanent transfer to the Ligue 1 club in July 2020.

However, Icardi has struggled to deliver the goods consistently for PSG, amassing 36 goals and ten assists in 78 appearances for Les Parisiens. At the same time, the 28-year-old has gone through a turbulent time off the field, which has affected his output on the pitch. And it looks like the player’s time at PSG is nigh on ending, with Real Madrid offered the chance to sign him.

The Spanish giants had previously shown an interest in signing Icardi, although that was when he scored goals for fun. However, while the Argentine international has not been consistent for PSG, Real Madrid could still do with a striker like him, considering Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz face uncertain futures at the club.

However, the Merengues appear to have no intention of signing the 28-year-old, meaning he will have to seek another destination as he approaches the end of his stint with PSG. Instead, one of several other strikers linked with Real Madrid, like Benjamin Sesko, could be viewed as an ideal solution to replace Jovic and Mariano.

As for Icardi, there is no shortage of interest in him, with Newcastle United particularly keen on signing him. However, with the Magpies mired in a relegation battle in the Premier League, the Argentine international will likely wait to seek clarity on their future in the top-flight before taking a call on joining them.

What appears to be certain is that Icardi will not be joining Real Madrid when he leaves PSG. For now, it is clear that the 28-year-old striker’s time with the Ligue 1 giants is set to end sooner or later.
