Gonzalo Montiel is reportedly attracted by the idea of joining Real Madrid and is hoping for Sevilla to negotiate a deal with Los Blancos.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Real Madrid have been handed a major boost in pursuit of Gonzalo Montiel. The 24-year-old defender considers the prospect of joining Los Blancos as an opportunity of a lifetime and is hoping for Sevilla to enter into negotiations with their La Liga rivals.
Gonzalo Montiel joined Sevilla from River Plate in the summer transfer window this year and has only made slow progress since then. However, he has been given a chance to impress week in week out in recent weeks, as captain Jesus Navas has been sidelined with a muscle injury. And the Argentine has duly made his mark.
Thus far this season, the 24-year-old has made 11 appearances for Sevilla, chipping in with one goal and one assist in the process. And despite not featuring prominently, Montiel has managed to impress one of the biggest clubs in the world – Real Madrid.
The interest from Real Madrid makes a world of sense, considering recent reports have claimed that there are concerns over the long-term future of Dani Carvajal. In particular, his injury woes in the past year have forced Los Blancos to field makeshift right-backs in several games, especially with Alvaro Odriozola failing to impress.
With Odriozola likely to be sold at the earliest opportunity and Lucas Vazquez struggling to impress as a makeshift right-back this season, Real Madrid must sign a right-back to solve their issues in the position. To that end, Montiel is a viable target for Los Blancos.
Now, the Spanish giants have been handed a major boost in pursuit of the 24-year-old, who is open to joining them. According to the report, Montiel sees the prospect of joining Real Madrid as the opportunity of a lifetime and is hoping for Sevilla to begin negotiations with their La Liga rivals if a bid comes their way.
However, Los Nervionenses have no intention of opening talks with Real Madrid, having only signed the Argentine defender in the summer as a long-term successor for Navas. However, with reports claiming that Real Madrid could cash in on Carvajal, it remains to be seen if they can land the 24-year-old if they firm up their interest in him.
