Transfer News: Newcastle United plotting Reinier Jesus swoop

Newcastle United are reportedly among the clubs keen on signing Reinier Jesus from Real Madrid once his loan deal with Borussia Dortmund ends.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Reinier Jesus is the subject of interest from three clubs over a possible move in next summer’s transfer window. One of the outfits chasing the Real Madrid prospect, currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund, is Newcastle United.

Reinier Jesus joined Real Madrid from Flamengo in January 2020, arriving in the Spanish capital amid a lot of hype surrounding him. Once compared to Brazilian legend Kaka, expectations have naturally been high from the 19-year-old prospect.

However, the teenage prodigy has struggled to make an impression in senior-level club football in Europe. Having initially been assigned to the Real Madrid Castilla side for the remainder of the 2019/20 season, Reinier joined Borussia Dortmund on a two-year loan deal in August 2020.

The move to Dortmund has not panned out as envisioned for the young Brazilian, who has featured just 28 times in 18 months at the Signal Iduna Park thus far. In those 28 appearances, Reinier has only raked in 570 minutes of game-time while amassing one goal and one assist.

So, it goes without saying that Reinier’s loan spell at Dortmund has been a dud, with his father recently speaking out about his struggles in Germany. With the 19-year-old only likely to return to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, he has been left in the lurch at Dortmund. However, once he returns, Reinier is likely to be off to another club in the summer, with Newcastle United keen on signing him.

The interest from Newcastle United makes sense, considering Miguel Almiron has blown hot and cold when playing through the centre. The Magpies need an injection of creativity, with Reinier, a player who could offer just that while also providing a major goal threat if he can rediscover his best form.

Apart from Newcastle, Getafe and Espanyol are also interesting in prising him away from Real Madrid, while Benfica’s name has also been mentioned previously. So, with several clubs vying for the signature of the 19-year-old prospect, it remains to be seen what the future holds for him once he returns to Real Madrid from his dreadful loan spell with Borussia Dortmund.
