Real Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on Sevilla defender Gonzalo Montiel, with a move for the 24-year-old Argentine international being considered.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Gonzalo Montiel is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in a future transfer window. The Spanish giants are weighing up a move for the 24-year-old Sevilla defender but will have a tough task clinching a handy deal.
Gonzalo Montiel joined Sevilla from River Plate in the summer transfer window this year and has made gradual progress since then. The Argentine international has started just eight of the 21 games that Los Nervionenses have played thus far this season, producing one goal and one assist in the process.
However, despite sharing game-time with captain Jesus Navas, the 24-year-old is rated highly. So much so that one of the biggest clubs in the world in Real Madrid have set their sights firmly on Montiel.
The interest from Real Madrid is understandable, considering Dani Carvajal has been blighted by fitness issues in the past year. While the Spaniard seems to have regained full fitness in recent weeks, widespread reports have bizarrely claimed that Los Blancos would not mind cashing in on him.
Nevertheless, it would behove Real Madrid to sign a right-back, as Alvaro Odriozola does not seem to have much of a future at the club, while Lucas Vazquez has not impressed much as a makeshift right-back this season. As a result, the Spanish giants have recently been linked with several right-backs, including Jeremie Frimpong.
To that end, Montiel is also a viable target for Real Madrid, who have also been linked with another Sevilla defender in Jules Kounde lately. However, with Sevilla infamously being tough negotiators, Real Madrid could have an uphill task in securing the services of the 24-year-old Argentine international.
For now, the Merengues are tracking the right-back’s progress, and it remains to be seen if they firm up their interest in him in the weeks and months to come. Signing a right-back appears to be a priority for Real Madrid, and it might not be surprising to see Montiel arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu soon, despite only joining Sevilla this year.
