Real Madrid are reportedly looking to beat Barcelona to secure the services of Benjamin Sesko, valued at €25 million by Red Bull Salzburg.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Real Madrid president is looking to repeat the formula that helped the club beat Barcelona to the signature of Vinicius Junior. This time around, the Spanish giants are looking to usurp Barcelona in the pursuit of Benjamin Sesko, valued at €25 million by Red Bull Salzburg.
Benjamin Sesko joined Red Bull Salzburg from NK Domzale in July 2019 and was immediately sent out on loan to sister club FC Liefering, as is the case with most prospects that join the Austrian giants. Since returning to the Red Bull Arena earlier this year, the 18-year-old has hit the ground running.
While the Slovenian prodigy has largely played second fiddle to Karim Adeyemi, he still has a solid record of seven goals and three assists in 21 appearances across all competitions, contributing to a strike directly once every 97.8 minutes. His progress has not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid and Barcelona among his prospective suitors.
The interest from Real Madrid is understandable despite their keenness to sign Erling Haaland. However, with the Borussia Dortmund striker heavily linked with the who’s who of European football, the Merengues need to keep their options open, which explains why they would want to sign Sesko.
In addition, Sesko could be a handy option for Real Madrid even if Haaland joins, considering Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz are facing uncertain futures at the club. On the other hand, the latest club to show an interest in Sesko is FC Barcelona.
The Catalan giants are one of the clubs keen on signing Sesko’s Salzburg teammate Karim Adeyemi, who is also a target for Real Madrid. And the Slovenian prodigy could be an additional target for Barcelona at a time when the need to add goals to their gameplay cannot be stated enough.
In addition to Real Madrid and Barcelona, Arsenal and Liverpool are also interested in the 18-year-old, who is valued at €25 million by Red Bull Salzburg. The price tag is unlikely to be excessive for any of his prospective suitors, especially Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants are now looking to repeat the formula that saw them beat Barcelona to Vinicius Junior a few years later. According to the trip, Benjamin is likelier to join Real Madrid than any other club as things stand. It will be interesting to see if they can indeed win the race to sign the Slovenian prodigy in a €25 million deal.
