Burnley are reportedly eyeing a swoop for SCO Angers midfielder Angelo Fulgini but face competition from EFL Championship outfit Fulham.
According to an exclusive report from Foot Mercato, Burnley are lining up a move for SCO Angers midfield mainstay Angelo Fulgini in the upcoming January transfer window but will have to stave off competition from Fulham.
Fulgini came through the youth ranks at Valenciennes and went on to make 84 senior appearances for the French outfit before making the switch to Angers in 2017. The 25-year-old has gradually grown into a regular in the starting XI for the Ligue 1 outfit, featuring a total of 139 times in which he has produced a return of 21 goals and 15 assists.
Fulgini has made a solid start to the ongoing campaign, having registered two goals and assists each from 15 league games. A central midfielder by trade, the former French Under-21 international has shown himself to be capable of playing in a multitude of positions, be it as a No. 10 or a centre-forward.
Fulgini’s impressive displays with Angers have led to interest from the Premier League, with Southampton and Brentford keen on signing him. It now seems like Burnley, too, have registered an interest in the 25-year-old ahead of the mid-season transfer window, which opens for business next month.
Burnley find themselves mired in the relegation muddle. The Clarets are currently stationed in 18th place, three points shy of safety and need a swift turnaround of fortunes to make a push for survival. Having already raided the French market for Maxwel Cornet in the summer, Sean Dyche & co. are reportedly eyeing another swoop on Ligue 1, this time for Fulgini.
However, they will have to battle EFL Championship outfit Fulham for the 25-year-old’s signing. The London club are at the top of the table in the English second division and are hoping to add more quality and depth to their ranks to bolster their bid for promotion.
But the report claims that Burnley have the edge over the Cottagers in the race for the Angers midfielder. It is even stated that the Clarets are already preparing an offer worth €15 million for Fulgini ahead of the January window. And the Ligue 1 club would be happy to accept the offer as they are in urgent need of a cash injection.
It now remains to be seen if Dyche & co. dip their toes into the French market again and land the services of the 25-year-old Fulgini, or look at other options to strengthen their squad.
