Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Gabriel Jesus if he fails to secure his long-term future with Manchester City.
According to Fichajes, Newcastle United are showing an interest in Gabriel Jesus as the report suggests his future at Manchester City might be in doubt.
Gabriel Jesus has seen himself turn provider rather than a scorer of goals this term after playing a slightly different role under Pep Guardiola in this campaign. After playing as a striker for most of his time at the club, he finds himself very effective playing on the right-wing.
Jesus has provided eight assists in all competitions while scoring five goals so far. His performances have been top-notch, yet the media speculation continues over his future at the club. There were rumours that Manchester City were willing to offload him in the summer to fund a move for a No. 9 such as Harry Kane.
Moreover, his deal with the club expires in 2023, which could prompt the club to cash in after the season. However, if the Brazilian performs at the highest levels, then Guardiola might urge the club to hand him an extension. With nothing indicating his future might concern the club or manager, Newcastle United are credited with an interest in making a move for the striker in the future, possibly next summer.
Even if the Magpies were thinking of making a move in the January window, there is certainly no chance Jesus will swap a title challenge for a relegation battle. However, next summer, depending on Newcastle’s status in the Premier League, a move could materialise, as they are expected to spend huge sums if they stay up.
The Magpies are interested in several Brazilians, with Leeds United’s Raphinha featuring high on their list of potential attacking targets. However, in the January window, they are expected to shore up their defence and midfield to avoid the drop at the end of the season.
They are also interested in signing Gabigol from Flamengo in January, although the Brazilian would be keener on signing for a side challenging for trophies.
As for Jesus, he remains firmly in the plans of Guardiola despite the media suggesting otherwise. Manchester City are expected to freshen up their squad a bit, although Jesus might end up extending his contract if he keeps the levels of his current performances and helps the club win honours this term.
