Liverpool have reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder Isco, with Jurgen Klopp vetoing the transfer.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Isco was offered to Liverpool over a possible move in a future transfer window. However, the Reds have rejected the chance to sign the out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder, with Jurgen Klopp no longer a fan of the Spaniard.
Isco has seen his fortunes dwindle significantly in the last few years, having gone from a rotation option at Real Madrid to a bit-part player. Currently, in his ninth season with Los Blancos, the Spaniard was regarded as one of the most promising midfielders of his generation a decade ago, but he has done nothing to fulfil his immense potential
The 29-year-old hardly makes appearances off the bench, and in the ongoing season, he has turned out only seven times for Real Madrid, amassing 177 minutes of game time. And with his Real Madrid contract running out next summer, Isco’s time at the club’s is nigh on ending. While several clubs have been linked with the player, he has also been offered to a few, including Liverpool.
The Reds have been reported to be in the market for a midfielder after choosing not to bring in a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum and promoting Harvey Elliott instead. While Elliott has impressed in the chances he was given before his injury, James Milner’s advancing age has amplified liverpool’s need for a midfielder.
To that end, the Premier League heavyweights have been heavily linked with several midfielders, including Denis Zakaria, Renato Sanches and Kalvin Phillips. And Isco could have been another option on Liverpool’s table, but they have no intention of snapping up the Real Madrid outcast.
Apart from Liverpool, the out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder has also been rejected by several other English clubs, including Chelsea. However, at the same time, Isco also appears on the radars of a few clubs, with Juventus, Fenerbahce and Arsenal among his suitors.
As for Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp used to be a huge admirer of Isco’s talents and has made previous attempts to snap him up from Real Madrid. However, with his form and levels on the wane, the Liverpool manager vetoed the transfer, and it remains to be seen where the Spaniard ends up after leaving Real Madrid.
