Arsenal have reportedly been handed a major boost in pursuit of Isco, with Real Madrid prepared to sell him to the Gunners.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Real Madrid are ready to part with out-of-favour midfielder Isco in the January transfer window. An agreement with Arsenal is likely to be agreed, with the Spaniard’s consent the only major detail left to be ironed out.
Isco has endured a roller-coaster of a ride since joining Real Madrid from Malaga in July 2013. Regarded as one of the best young midfielders in Spain at the time, the 29-year-old has often shown flashes of his undoubted brilliance but has been unable to perform consistently when given a chance to impress.
In recent years, things have gone from bad to worse for the player, who has been out of favour with Zinedine Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti in the last couple of seasons. This term, Isco has managed just 177 minutes of game-time in seven appearances, and it is hardly surprising that his situation at Real Madrid has become untenable. His next destination could be Arsenal.
The Gunners hold a long-standing interest in Isco, having attempted to sign him on previous occasions. Arsenal’s continued eagerness to secure his services is peculiar, though, considering the Real Madrid midfielder has been on the wane for some time.
Nevertheless, it looks like the north Londoners are the front-runners to sign the Spanish midfielder with Real Madrid prepared to deal with them for his services in the January transfer window. The only major detail left to be sorted is Arsenal’s agreement with Isco himself.
As for how Isco could slot in at Arsenal, he might come of use, particularly in January when Thomas Partey will be unavailable due to his impending participation at the Africa Cup of Nations. In addition, there is uncertainty surrounding the future of Mohamed Elneny, and Isco could take the Egyptian’s place in the Arsenal squad.
Apart from Arsenal, Juventus and Fenerbahce have also been linked with the out-of-favour Real Madrid midfielder. However, with Real Madrid prepared to deal with Arsenal over a January move, it remains to be seen if Isco agrees to complete a move to the capital of England this winter, thereby bringing an end to a frustrating stint with Los Blancos.
