Transfer News: Dani Olmo opens talks with Manchester United

Dani Olmo has reportedly begun negotiating a possible move to Manchester United after running out of patience with Barcelona.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Dani Olmo has run out of patience waiting for Barcelona to launch the offensive to secure his services in the January transfer window. As a result, the RB Leipzig playmaker has turned his attention towards Manchester United and is open to joining the Red Devils.

Dani Olmo has been with RB Leipzig since January 2020, having arrived at the Red Bull Arena from Dinamo Zagreb. A former member of Barcelona’s famed academy La Masia, the 23-year-old has been a key figure for club and country for the better part of the past couple of years.

However, 2021/22 has been a difficult season for Olmo, who has made just six appearances for Leipzig while producing one assist in the process. With injuries and other issues restricting his involvement and speculation over his future running rampant, all signs point towards the player’s stint with Leipzig winding down sooner or later, with Barcelona and Manchester United among his prospective suitors.

The Catalan giants were keen on signing Olmo in the summer transfer window but left it too late to make their move. The interest has not waned since then, with Barcelona reportedly eager to bring the Spanish international back to Camp Nou, and for a good reason.

Recent reports have even indicated that talks between Barcelona and Olmo are set to begin. However, it looks like Ferran Torres is the priority target for the Blaugrana, which has left Olmo frustrated and in search of some other club to further his career. And it looks like Manchester United could be his next destination.

The interest from Manchester United is somewhat surprising after their splurge on attacking players in the summer transfer window. However, with Paul Pogba facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, Olmo could be a like-for-like replacement. And with Barcelona relegating the 23-year-old to be a contingency option, the Reds Devils appear to be the new leaders in the race to sign him.

To that end, Olmo has initiated discussions with Manchester United, having previously been in favour of joining Barcelona instead. The youngster is also attracted by the idea of playing under Ralf Rangnick, and it looks like the Premier League heavyweights could have a chance of landing Olmo ahead of Barcelona if they launch the offensive for him.
