Transfer News: Real Madrid set sights on Matias Arezo

Real Madrid have reportedly joined the race to sign 19-year-old Uruguayan prodigy Matias Arezo, termed the “new Luis Suarez”.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Matias Arezo is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in a future transfer window. The 19-year-old Uruguayan prodigy, branded the “new Luis Suarez” is also being courted by Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Argentine giants River Plate and Boca Juniors.

Matias Arezo is widely regarded as one of the brightest young prospects in Uruguay, having gone from strength to strength since making his first-team debut for River Plate Montevideo. His exploits have even prompted many to compare the teenage prodigy with Luis Suarez.

To date, the 19-year-old has amassed 36 goals and 13 assists in 89 appearances for River Plate Montevideo. Arezo’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Real Madrid, setting their sights on him.

The Spanish giants have been heavily linked with Erling Haaland for a long time, with the Borussia Dortmund striker emerging as a priority for them for next summer’s transfer window. However, Real Madrid might be forced to sign another striker in the same window amid the uncertainties surrounding Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz.

The two backup strikers appear to have no future at Real Madrid and could move in one of the two upcoming transfer windows, with Mariano recently linked with Leeds United. So, it would behove Real Madrid to sign another striker to link up with Haaland for years to come, thereby making Arezo a viable target.

However, in addition to Real Madrid, clubs like Sevilla, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Argentine giants River Plate and Boca Juniors are also keen on signing the 19-year-old Uruguayan prodigy. Furthermore, it has also been suggested that Los Blancos’ local rivals Atletico Madrid could compete for his signature.

Interestingly, the “new Luis Suarez” could be viewed as an option to be a long-term successor to the Uruguayan legend at Atletico Madrid. However, Real Madrid have every intention of launching the offensive for Arezo, and it remains to be seen if the 19-year-old ends up joining the Spanish giants anytime soon.
