Crystal Palace are reportedly preparing to make a €10 million offer to Real Madrid for Borja Mayoral with a view of a January transfer.
According to La Nazione, as relayed by Sport Witness, Crystal Palace are interested in signing Borja Mayoral from Real Madrid in the January window. The London side are prepared to make a €10 million offer for his services, although his ongoing loan spell at AS Roma could complicate matters.
Borja Mayoral was considered a good prospect over at Madrid and was tipped to become a star in some capacity. However, considering the current options present to lead the front line at the Bernabeau and the prospect of some big signings on the way next summer, there’s no future for the Spaniard at the club.
Hence, to gain some regular football action, Mayoral agreed to a loan move to AS Roma in 2020 and performed admirably in his first season. The agreement between the clubs remains for two years until the summer of 2022, after which Madrid will decide his fate.
After playing 31 times in Serie A last term, scoring 10 goals, things looked bright for Mayoral in Italy. However, since Jose Mourinho became the manager this summer, the striker has found game time hard to come by, with his future looking increasingly uncertain in the Italian capital.
Reports suggest that Crystal Palace might offer €10 million to Real Madrid, hoping to convince them over a deal for the striker. It’s unclear whether it would be in the January window or after his loan spell with Roma ends in the summer.
Crystal Palace have been interested in Mayoral as Patrick Vieira seeks another striker to bolster his options in the final third of the pitch. There are plenty of attacking players at the club, including Christian Benteke, Jordan Ayew and summer arrival Odsonne Edouard.
However, Vieira has opted to play Edouard more from the left side of the attack, often switching with Wilfried Zaha in the role. Meanwhile, Ayew is also deployed from a wide attacking role, leaving Benteke the only proper centre-forward option.
Vieira is also interested in Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah, who could be available at a knock-down price in January with his contract expiring in the summer. However, with many other clubs circling the Gunners forward and the north London side unsure about a sale in the winter window, Mayoral could become a priority target.
Without ample game time in Rome, Mayoral might take his chances with Palace and a move to the Premier League. It remains to be seen if a fee of €10 million for a forward who played well last season will be enough to tempt Real Madrid to consider a sale.
