Transfer News: Liverpool interested in Kamaldeen Sulemana

Premier League giants Liverpool are eyeing a move for talented Stade Rennais winger Kamaldeen Sulemana.

According to Fichajes, Premier League giants Liverpool are keeping a close eye on Rennes sensation Kamaldeen Sulemana.

The 19-year-old winger has been a revelation at the Ligue 1 side following his transfer earlier in the summer. He has so far made 20 appearances for the French side, scoring five times and assisting two more. It represents a decent return for a player who is enjoying his first taste of European football.

Primarily a left-winger, Sulemana is capable of playing anywhere along the frontline. Despite his young age, he is already a full international for Ghana and has won two caps for their national side. Not many players can outshine Jeremy Doku at Rennes, but Sulemana has managed to do just that in a clear show of his ability.

His performances have not gone unnoticed on Merseyside, and Liverpool are keeping close tabs on his progress. The Reds, who have decided to end their pursuit of Doku, already have two of the best African wingers in the game today in Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Both are, however, not getting any younger and will need replacing sooner or later.

Liverpool will get an early taste of life without the duo when they leave the club to participate in next January’s African Cup of Nations. How the Reds cope in their absence could determine where the club stand come to the end of the season.

Whether Liverpool make a move for the player in January or next summer remains to be seen. With Ghana also set to participate in the Cup of Nations, securing Sulemana in January could prove counterproductive. This will especially be the case should he also make it to the Black Stars’ squad for the tournament.

While he may or may not hit the ground running, the 19-year-old’s talent is undeniable. With his reputation soaring after every game, the Reds are best advised to lock in a deal for his services as quickly as possible. The last thing they want is for more teams to get involved.

Available for as little as €15 million, Sulemana represents excellent value for money. This is especially the case if he reaches his potential. Possessing pace and technique, the 19-year-old can develop into a world-class player under Jurgen Klopp. More so, he could very well succeed Mane on the left flank in the years to come.

The Ghanaian certainly fits the profile of a player that Liverpool usually looks for. Whether Michael Edwards has one last trick up his sleeve before he leaves the club at the end of the campaign remains to be seen.
