Transfer News: Paulo Dybala uninterested in joining Barcelona

Paulo Dybala is reportedly ready to snub a move to Barcelona. The 28-year-old attacker is set to commit his long-term future to Serie A giants Juventus.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Paulo Dybala is ready to commit his long-term future to Juventus by signing a new five-year contract with the Serie A giants. Such a development has put paid to Barcelona’s hopes of snapping up the 28-year-old attacker.

Dybala has been a stalwart in Serie A for the better part of the past decade. The Argentine forward first burst onto the limelight after joining Palermo in July 2012, enjoying a productive three-year stint with the Rosanero. In 2015, the player joined Juventus and has enjoyed a fine spell in Turin.

While he has had his fair share of highs and lows at the Allianz Stadium, Dybala has managed to establish himself as a pivotal figure over the years. The 2021/22 season has been strong for the 28-year-old, who has six goals and four assists in 12 appearances for Juventus, even as the Bianconeri struggle to perform consistently, especially in Serie A.

However, the Italian giants have been in a precarious position over the long-term future for quite some time, with the Argentine international’s contract at the club expiring next summer. Such a situation had piqued the interest of Barcelona.

The Catalan giants have been targetting a Bosman move for Dybala, keeping next summer’s transfer window in mind. The interest in the player is understandable as well, considering the 28-year-old is as close to a viable replacement for Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann that Barcelona can find in the transfer market.

Interestingly, Messi had once vetoed Dybala’s signing from Juventus back in 2017. However, with Dybala’s Juventus contract expiring next summer, his situation aligned well with Barcelona’s financial status, as the 28-year-old can potentially arrive at Camp Nou on a free transfer in 2022.

But Dybala is set to snub the chance to join Barcelona by committing his long-term future to the Serie A giants. The Catalan giants now need to turn their attention elsewhere, with Ferran Torres another versatile attacker on their radar. As for Dybala, his long-term future appears to be in Turin, with Juventus set to keep hold of the player.
