Transfer News: Fenerbahce eye Real Madrid star Isco to replace Mesut Ozil

Real Madrid playmaker Isco has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for Fenerbahce, who are scouring the market for a replacement for Mesut Ozil.

According to a report from Fichajes, Turkish giants Fenerbahce have set their sights on a January move for out-of-favour Real Madrid star Isco as they are looking to replace chief playmaker Mesut Ozil.

Isco has become an unwanted commodity at the Santiago Bernabeu. His eight-year-long stint with the Spanish capital club is likely to come to an end in the imminent future. Signed from Malaga in 2013, the 29-year-old had been a regular in the side in the early parts of his tenure with Los Blancos but has seen his stock decline rapidly over the past three years.

Indeed, since the onset of the 2018/19 campaign, Isco has started just 36 matches in La Liga, with only two of those coming in the current campaign. There have been no indications that his situation will improve under Carlo Ancelotti, leading to non-stop speculations over his future at the Bernabeu.

There has been an interest in his services from Serie A giants Juventus, while his services have also been offered to Real Madrid’s local rivals Atletico Madrid. Now, Fenerbahce have also entered the picture as a potential suitor for the Spanish international.

The Turkish giants signed ex-Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil from Arsenal last year but are already on the lookout for a replacement for the 33-year-old. It is claimed in the report that the former German international has emerged as a shock transfer target for Barcelona ahead of the January transfer window.

Even if he does not leave the club in the winter window, Fenerbahce are concerned about his recurring injury and fitness issues. As a result, they are on the lookout for a replacement for the former Arsenal playmaker, identifying Isco as one of the potential options.

The 29-year-old sees his contract with Real Madrid run out at the end of the season. It would mean that Isco could be available at a bargain price in the upcoming transfer window. With the player not part of the plans at the club, a parting of ways would make sense for all parties involved. What remains to be seen is whether the 38-time capped Spanish international ends up in Turkey.
