Leeds United are set to battle European heavyweights Liverpool and Real Madrid for Fulham sensation Fabio Carvalho.
According to Football League World, Premier League strugglers Leeds United are set to go up against Liverpool and Real Madrid to pursue young Fulham sensation, Fabio Carvalho.
The 19-year-old continues to make a name for himself at Craven Cottage as Fulham continue to occupy the first spot in the English second tier. Carvalho has made eight appearances in the league this campaign, netting four goals and assisting one more. This puts him joint third in the Cottagers’ top scores list this season.
Carvalho joined Fulham in 2014 and progressed through the ranks, eventually making his senior bow in the 2019/20 campaign. He is slowly yet steadily establishing himself as a key first-team player for Marco Silva. The youngster’s game has gone up a notch this season, which has caught the attention of several clubs elsewhere.
With Leeds, Liverpool and Real Madrid all circling, Fulham have a fight on their hands to keep hold of the starlet. They remain hopeful that Carvalho will pen a new deal going into the January transfer window. Whether a key role in helping Fulham return to the top flight will be enough to sway him remains to be seen.
This season, Leeds are struggling in the Premier League and find themselves a mere two points off the relegation zone. With the future of Raphinha a matter of much discussion, they will be well served to prepare contingency plans.
The Brazilian is a key member of Marcelo Bielsa’s outfit, and replacing him will be no easy task. However, Carvalho has the potential and, with the right guidance, could emerge into a dependable top-flight star. Bielsa also has a good record of developing youth talent and could work his magic on the 19-year-old.
The likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool can give him a real shot at top-level football while also aiding his development tenfold. The Reds have a solid but ageing squad and will do well to infuse youth in their ranks. Not only could Jurgen Klopp do with reinforcements on the wings, but Carvalho can also function as an attacking midfielder in the middle of the park.
Bringing in Carvalho could unite him with former Fulham starlet Harvey Elliott at Anfield. The Reds youngster was given a real run out earlier this season before a horror injury against Leeds cut short his season. Whether a reunion is on the cards in Merseyside remains to be seen.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, are in the middle of a rebuild. They could certainly do with a multi-talented player like Carvalho in their ranks. Young English players have made a name for themselves abroad in recent times, and the 19-year-old could add to that list.
All that said, Carvalho has a better shot at regular playtime should he stay put at Craven Cottage. Next season, a potential return to the Premier League will see him don the Fulham colours in the top flight. Just 19, he has the best years of his career ahead of him. Staying put and developing his game would be the best option for him at this point.
