Transfer News: Arsenal join Barcelona, Real Madrid in Donny van de Beek pursuit

Arsenal have reportedly joined Barcelona, Real Madrid and other clubs in the race to sign Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek.

According to a report from Fichajes, Arsenal have emerged as the latest club to register their interest in Donny van de Beek. The Manchester United midfielder has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in the transfer market, as he braces himself for a potential exit in the upcoming January transfer window.

A host of top European clubs have already stated their desire to sign the Dutchman, with Real Madrid reportedly poised to open talks with the player over a January move. Manchester United are believed to value their prized midfield asset at around €30 million and might be willing to sanction an exit from Old Trafford.

Along with Real Madrid, Barcelona are another club in contention to sign the former Ajax starlet. It appears van de Beek’s exposure to Ajax’s style of play has made him a desirable option for new coach Xavi, who is hoping to shore up his midfield options in the January transfer window.

However, the two Spanish giants are set to face stiff competition from Arsenal in the pursuit of Donny van de Beek. The Gunners are apparently looking to further strengthen their midfield unit after letting go of Dani Ceballos and losing Granit Xhaka due to an injury.

Their recent 4-0 loss to Liverpool highlighted a host of problems for Mikel Arteta’s team, with Thomas Partey and Albert Sambi Lokonga being completely outplayed. The Spaniard is hoping to address this problem by bringing in van de Beek, whose creative prowess and technical quality could be useful for the club’s build-up game.

The Dutchman also brings a lot of dynamism to the table, making him a desirable option for Arsenal. However, it appears unlikely that Manchester United would be willing to sell their star midfielder to a direct rival, especially for a fee of just €30 million.

A move to either Barcelona or Real Madrid seems like a stronger possibility, in that regard while van de Beek is also a target for other Premier League clubs, including Everton and Newcastle United. Hence, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 24-year-old as he looks to revive his career in the second half of the season.
