Real Madrid are reportedly considering 33-year-old Napoli goalkeeper David Ospina as a possible replacement for Andriy Lunin.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, David Ospina has popped up on Real Madrid’s radar over a possible move in the January transfer window. The 33-year-old Napoli goalkeeper is viewed as a potential option to replace wantaway shot-stopper Andriy Lunin.
David Ospina has fared decently since joining Napoli from Arsenal. Initially signed on a season-long loan deal in August 2018, the Colombian goalkeeper’s move was made permanent by the Serie A outfit a year later. However, he has continued sharing game-time at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, never once featuring more than 30 times in a season for the Partenopei.
Ospina has been a key figure in Napoli’s early dominance in Serie A this season, though, keeping seven clean sheets in ten league outings while conceding just three goals. His exploits seem to have captured the attention of one of the biggest clubs in the world, with Real Madrid weighing up a January move for the 33-year-old.
Real Madrid could be forced into the transfer market for a goalkeeper in the January transfer window, as Andriy Lunin is increasingly disillusioned with his role at the club. The Ukrainian shot-stopper has been left frustrated by the fact that he only features in Copa Del Rey, although he had very little chance of usurping Thibaut Courtois in the first place.
Nevertheless, the 22-year-old is seeking a January move away from Real Madrid, with Borussia Dortmund among the clubs linked with him. As a result, the Spanish giants are now scouring the transfer market for a goalkeeper, with Ospina emerging on their radar.
Apart from the former Arsenal goalkeeper, Los Blancos have already been linked with Fernando Pacheco and Dani Cardenas. And according to Fichajes, the likes of Antonio Adan, Edgar Badia, Joel Robles and Sergio Asenjo are also options being considered by Real Madrid.
As for the pursuit of Ospina, it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid can land him in the January transfer window. With Napoli locked in the Serie A title race, the 33-year-old might not be allowed to leave this winter, seeing as he is the primary choice in league games as things stand.
