Transfer News: Real Madrid prepared to open Donny van de Beek talks with Manchester United

Real Madrid are reportedly ready to open talks with Manchester United for the services of out-of-favour midfielder Donny van de Beek.

According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Real Madrid are prepared to initiate talks with Premier League bigwigs Manchester United for midfielder Donny van de Beek after receiving the go-ahead from manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Van de Beek was once regarded as one of the finest young midfielders in Europe. Having made the switch to Manchester United from boyhood club AFC Ajax last year, the 24-year-old has seen his reputation take a hit as he has struggled to carve out a place for himself at Old Trafford.

Indeed, the Netherlands international has been hardly favoured by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, leaving the midfielder warming the benches more often than not. Van de Beek has played just 16 minutes of Premier League football in the 2021/22 campaign. To put things into perspective, Daniel James, who left the club for Leeds in the summer, saw close to 130 minutes of action in the league for the Red Devils.

With the situation being as it is, the Dutchman has decided to leave Old Trafford in the upcoming transfer window. And, there is no shortage of suitors for the 24-year-old with the likes of Everton and Newcastle United eyeing loan swoops while Real Madrid, too, are interested in the midfielder’s services.

Los Blancos are long-term admirers of van de Beek, having tried to sign him in the past before his move to Manchester United. While they did strengthen their midfield this past summer with the addition of Eduardo Camavinga, more reinforcements will be needed in the middle of the park in the near future.

That is because Luka Modric is in the twilight of his career, while his contract will also run out at the end of the season. Even if he does sign an extension, the veteran midfielder’s game-time will need to be managed carefully. Toni Kroos, too, is in his thirties and will need to be used more judiciously going forward, given that he has already had some injury problems in the ongoing season.

So, the signing of a new midfielder becomes imperative for the Spanish capital club. And, as reported by Konur, van de Beek is a player that could be under consideration. The journalist claims that the 24-year-old midfielder has been offered to Real Madrid, who are now set to enter into talks with Manchester United after receiving the green signal from manager Ancelotti.

The Merengues could be willing to make a cut-price offer to secure the services of the Dutchman in the upcoming transfer window. Whether Manchester United are willing to push through with a deal or decide to hold on to van de Beek, despite the player’s frustrations, remains to be seen.
