Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah is reportedly considering a summer switch to Barcelona, who are keen on signing the in-form Egyptian forward.
According to a report from El Nacional, Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah would be open to a transfer to La Liga giants Barcelona, with the Catalan club interested in making a summer swoop for the forward.
Salah has grown into one of the best forwards in the game since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in the summer of 2017. During his four-year stint at Anfield, the 29-year-old has led the Reds to their first Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League triumph, sending several records tumbling along the way.
A strong contender for the Ballon d’Or 2021, Salah has been in absolutely stunning form in the 2021/22 campaign, plundering 15 goals and six assists from 15 matches across all competitions. Without question, the Egyptian international is Liverpool’s most important player, but there have been speculations surrounding his future due to his current contractual situation.
Salah’s existing deal with the Merseysiders runs out in 2023. There have been talks held over a new contract, but an agreement is yet to be reached, which has fueled rumours that the 29-year-old could leave the club at the end of the season when he enters the final year of his contract. And Barcelona are among clubs who are keen on signing the Liverpool superstar.
The Catalans lost their main man Lionel Messi in the summer earlier this year and have been unable to replace him adequately. With Ousmane Dembele’s contract also running out at the end of the ongoing campaign and Antoine Griezmann also not at Camp Nou anymore, Barcelona need some star quality in their attacking unit to complement Memphis Depay and Ansu Fati.
New manager Xavi Hernandez, thus, has made it a priority to sign a new forward, with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Dani Olmo on the radars of the Catalans. However, the Blaugrana also have Salah on their agenda for the summer of 2022. And as per the report mentioned above, the 29-year-old Liverpool superstar wouldn’t say no if Barcelona were to approach him over a transfer.
However, any move would be hard to pull off for the La Liga giants due to their financial situation, considering that a player of Salah’s calibre would cost over €100 million, not to mention his massive wages. Furthermore, the former Chelsea ace has himself claimed that he wishes to continue at Liverpool. So, all the talks of his rumoured exit could be rendered moot should he sign a new contract with the Reds.
