Transfer News: Newcastle United rival Real Madrid for Aurelien Tchouameni

Chelsea step up interest in £40 million-rated Liverpool target

Real Madrid are reportedly facing stiff competition from Newcastle United for Aurelien Tchouameni, valued at €50 million by AS Monaco.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni. The French midfielder, valued at €50 million by AS Monaco, is also being courted by Real Madrid over a move in next summer’s transfer window.

Aurelien Tchouameni has become one of the most highly sought-after players in the transfer market since joining AS Monaco from Bordeaux in January 2020. In the near two years that he has been with the principality club, the 21-year-old has come leaps and bounds, even breaking into the French national side.

The youngster was most recently a key part of the triumphant squad that won the UEFA Nations League last month. As for his stint with Monaco, Tchouameni has made 65 appearances for the Ligue 1 club, chipping in with five goals and four assists in the process. His progress has not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid and Newcastle United among his prospective suitors.

The interest from Real Madrid is hardly surprising, considering Casemiro will turn 30 before the ongoing season draws to a close. With the Brazilian midfielder not having a viable backup option in the first-team squad anyway, it will behove Real Madrid to make a move for someone like Tchouameni.

However, Los Blancos are facing stiff competition from Newcastle United in pursuit of the 21-year-old, with the Magpies the latest club to show an interest in him. The Tyneside outfit has been linked with a gamut of top-class midfielders recently in the wake of the club’s takeover by the Public Investment Fund.

Midfield is reportedly one of the priority areas to bolster for Newcastle, with the current options not inspiring much confidence. As a result, the Premier League giants have been linked with Amadou Haidara, Adrien Rabiot and Marcelo Brozovic, with Tchouameni emerging as their latest target.

According to El Nacional, Newcastle are ready to usurp Real Madrid in pursuit of the French midfielder, and they could even be open to paying than the €50 million being demanded by Monaco. While Real Madrid are willing to pay his current €50 million price tag, the Magpies could blow them away with a bigger offer.

Tchouameni is also attracted by the prospect of joining Newcastle, as he would be the protagonist of their new project. So, it remains to be seen if Real Madrid can do anything to turn the player’s head or if Newcastle prevail in the race to sign him.
