Manchester United are ready to rival Atletico Madrid in the race to sign RB Leipzig starlet Dominik Szoboszlai next season.
According to Calciomercato, Manchester United have emerged as one of the potential suitors for Dominik Szoboszlai. The RB Leipzig playmaker does have a long-term contract at the club that expires in 2026, but it appears the Bundesliga giants won’t stand in the player’s way, should he opt to leave anytime soon.
Leipzig have reportedly embedded a release clause in Szoboszlai’s contract worth around €60-70 million. Manchester United have been interested in his services for a while, but they are now set to face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid.
Los Colchoneros haven’t had much success with the summer signing of Matheus Cunha. Arsenal were even linked with a shock January move for the Brazilian while Atletico’s another marquee signing in Rodrigo De Paul is yet to hit the ground running, despite emerging as a first-team regular for Diego Simeone.
As far as Szoboszlai is concerned, it appears both Manchester United and Atletico Madrid have been left impressed by the player’s versatility in the final third, coupled with his chance creation. The Hungarian international has been notably involved in nine goals in 15 competitive outings so far this campaign.
Manchester United are likely considering him as an ideal backup for Bruno Fernandes, adding more competition in the number ten slot. He could serve as a direct replacement for Donny van de Beek as well, with the Dutchman being linked with a January exit from Old Trafford recently.
Szoboszlai isn’t the only Leipzig player to be courted by the Premier League either. In fact, the Red Devils are reportedly scouting Dani Olmo, exploring the possibility of snapping up the former Barcelona youth graduate next season.
Leipzig, though, are in no immediate danger of losing Szoboszlai. The Hungarian joined the club earlier in the year and is unlikely to move on. He is already enjoying a relatively good season under Jesse Marsch, having built a formidable attacking partnership alongside Christopher Nkunku and Dani Olmo.
Manchester United will be certainly keeping a close eye on the Hungarian’s progression over the coming months, though. He is, after all, one of the hottest talents in the Bundesliga, with the potential to become an asset for Leipzig in the near future.
