Toni Kroos has no intention of joining Liverpool and is instead reportedly determined to stay put and end his career at Real Madrid.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Liverpool have been handed a major blow in pursuit of Toni Kroos. The German playmaker has no intention of joining the Reds and is instead keen on remaining at Real Madrid, where he wishes to end his career.
Toni Kroos is widely regarded as one of the finest midfielders of his generation, having been a key figure for Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and the German national side. The 31-year-old joined the Spanish giants from Bayern in the summer of 2014 and has been a pivotal performer for Los Blancos in the last seven years.
To date, Kroos has made 328 appearances for Real Madrid, chipping in with 23 goals and 80 assists in the process. However, with the veteran playmaker set to enter the final 18 months of his Real Madrid contract, speculation over his future has been rife, with several big-name clubs being linked with him of late. One of his prospective suitors are Liverpool.
The interest from Liverpool is understandable, considering they chose not to replenish Georginio Wijnaldum’s spot after selling him to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window. While the advent of Harvey Elliott helped ease the process of filling the Dutchman’s void, it is worth noting that James Milner is in the twilight of his career.
In addition, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is facing an uncertain future at Anfield while captain Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara are on the wrong side of 30. So, it is not surprising that Liverpool have shown an inclination towards signing a midfielder, with Marcelo Brozovic, Florian Neuhaus and Real Madrid ace Federico Valverde among those on their radar.
To that end, Kroos is also a viable target for the Reds. However, Liverpool have now faced a major blow in pursuit of the 31-year-old, who is determined to stay put at Real Madrid, hoping to end his career at the club.
Apart from Liverpool, Newcastle United, Manchester City and PSG were also linked with Kroos, each of whom would have faced the blow, like the Reds. As for the Merseyside giants, it will be interesting to see who they turn their attention towards, with Kroos unlikely to arrive from Real Madrid.
