Leicester City and Watford have reportedly made enquiries for Genoa’s 21-year-old full-back Andrea Cambiaso, who is also on the radars of Juventus.
According to a report from Tutto Mercato Web, Genoa youngster Andrea Cambiaso has become a man in demand in the transfer market, with Premier League clubs Leicester City and Watford making an approach for the defender.
Cambiaso is a product of the Genoa youth academy. The left-back has had loan spells away at Albissola, Savona, Alessandria and Empoli before making his first-team breakthrough at his boyhood club in the current season.
Cambiaso has made a solid impression in his senior debut campaign, racking up a total of 13 appearances across competitions, scoring one goal and setting up two more. His performances have resulted in a call-up to the Italy Under-21 national team for the 21-year-old, while he has also managed to attract interest from several big clubs across Europe.
Indeed, the likes of Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla have taken a liking to the Genoa full-back, with Premier League clubs Leicester City and Watford also emerging as his suitors, as per the report.
The interest from Leicester comes as a bit of a surprise considering the options that they already have in the left-back slot. Brendan Rodgers can play Timothy Castagne on the left side of his defence when Ricardo Pereira is fit and available to feature on the right. Beyond the Belgian, the Foxes also have Luke Thomas and summer signing Ryan Bertrand as well.
So, it comes off as a bit puzzling that Leicester have already lodged an enquiry for the 21-year-old Cambiaso. However, they are not alone in doing so, with fellow Premier League club Watford also asking about his situation. The Hornets have Danny Rose and Adam Masina as options for the left-back slot currently on the books, with the former arriving on a free transfer earlier this summer.
However, Rose is 31 years old and is hardly a long-term option, so someone like Cambiaso could be groomed to take over from the former Tottenham Hotspur man in a year or two.
The 21-year-old’s contract with Genoa runs till the summer of 2023. It remains to be seen if Leicester or Watford turn their enquiry into a formal bid for the youngster in the future.
