Barcelona are reportedly interested in Cedric Bakambu, looking to land the 30-year-old forward as an emergency cover for Sergio Aguero.
According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Cedric Bakambu is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a move in the January transfer window. The Blaugrana have reignited their interest in the 30-year-old as they scour the transfer market for an emergency cover for Sergio Aguero.
Cedric Bakambu is currently with Beijing Guoan, having joined the Chinese Super League Club from Villarreal in 2018. To date, the DR Congo striker has made 85 appearances for the Imperial Guards, garnering 58 goals and 21 assists in the process.
However, Bakambu’s stint with Beijing Guoan appears to be nearing its end, with his contract running out at the turn of the year. And the 30-year-old could be on his way back to La Liga, with Catalan giants Barcelona keen on signing him on a free transfer in the January transfer window.
Barcelona have struggled to score goals consistently this season, with Memphis Depay and Ansu Fati currently the only reliable options in the final third. The Blaugrana’s woes have further been compounded by the heart issue contracted by Sergio Aguero, who has been ruled out indefinitely.
With Luuk de Jong failing to impress since arriving on loan from Sevilla on deadline day in the summer and Martin Braithwaite sidelined with a long-term injury, Barcelona are set to be forced into the transfer market for a striker for a second successive window.
To that end, several options have reportedly been identified by Barcelona, including rising German star Karim Adeyemi. However, the pursuit of the 19-year-old Red Bull Salzburg forward will be complicated amid Barcelona’s financial woes, which is perhaps why they have set their sights on Cedric Bakambu.
The report claims that Barcelona are already in talks with Bakambu over a potential January move. With the 30-year-old likely to arrive on a free transfer, he could be ideal recruitment for the Catalan giants, especially considering he has prior experience in La Liga. So, it remains to be seen if Barcelona can land Bakambu as emergency cover for Aguero this winter.
