Transfer News: Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid set for Karim Adeyemi talks

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are reportedly set to meet with the agents of Red Bull Salzburg and Germany forward Karim Adeyemi over a possible summer move.

According to a report from Fichajes.net, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are set to battle it out for the signing of Red Bull Salzburg’s German sensation Karim Adeyemi. The La Liga powerhouses are set to meet with the 19-year-old’s representatives to explore the possibility of a transfer in the summer.

Adeyemi has become one of the most sought-after teenage prospects in European football ever since his breakthrough with RB Salzburg. A former SpVgg Unterhaching academy product, he signed for the Austrian giants in 2018 and spent the next eighteen months away on loan at FC Liefering, where he earned his spurs.

Since returning to Salzburg in January last year, the 19-year-old has gradually developed into a key player in attack, helping fill the void left behind by the likes of Erling Haaland and Patson Daka. Adeyemi has 24 goals and 17 assists for the Austrian giants, with 14 of his goals coming in the ongoing campaign.

In addition to that, Adeyemi was also part of the German national team that won the Under-21 European Championships earlier this year before making his breakthrough at the senior level for Die Mannschaft. His rapid progress to the top has attracted several admirers across Europe, such as Liverpool, PSG, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

Given the mounting interest in the 19-year-old, it is only a matter of time before he seals an exit from Salzburg. And, his agents are now meeting with various top clubs ahead of a possible summer move, with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid also set to hold talks imminently.

It is no secret that Real Madrid are in the market for a new striker for the upcoming season. Karim Benzema may be going strong, but he will soon be turning 34 and will eventually need to be replaced in the long run. With both Mariano Diaz and Luka Jovic underwhelming as backup choices, Los Blancos could potentially sign two centre-forwards come summer.

Kylian Mbappe remains firmly on the agenda for the Spanish capital outfit, who want to add another forward beyond the Frenchman, leading to the interest in Adeyemi. However, they will have to stave off competition from local rivals Atletico Madrid who are also keen on landing the three-time capped German international.

The interest from Los Rojiblancos stems from the fact that Luis Suarez is out of contract at the end of the season. The Uruguayan has done a fine job for the reigning La Liga champions, but given his age, even if he signs an extension, Diego Simeone & co. would be well-served by bringing in another striker, especially as Matheus Cunha has not been able to make the desired impact since arriving in the summer.

Adeyemi, to that end, becomes a viable option for Atletico Madrid to consider signing. With both the La Liga giants set to meet with his representatives in the coming days, it will be interesting to see if they can make any serious progress in pursuit of the German international.
