Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing Toni Kroos from Real Madrid in a deal worth around €30 million.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Toni Kroos has popped up on the radar of Newcastle United over a potential move in a future transfer window. To that end, the Magpies are readying a bid worth €30 million to secure the services of the Real Madrid midfielder.
Toni Kroos joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014 and has since established himself as one of the club’s all-time greats. A key figure for the Spanish giants over the last seven years, the German international played a pivotal role in their dominance in Europe till 2018 while also helping deliver other major honours.
To date, Kroos has made 326 appearances for Real Madrid, chipping in with 22 goals and 80 assists along the way. However, as per recent reports, it has been suggested that the 31-year-old could be poached away from Real Madrid, with multiple Premier League outfits linked with him already. And the latest English club to show an interest in Kroos are Newcastle United.
Newcastle United are braced for a major squad rebuild project following the takeover by the Saudi Arabia-backed Public Investment Fund. Since then, the Magpies have invariably been linked with several big-name players, including Real Madrid stars like Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard and Marcelo, among others.
However, it has now emerged that Bale is not a priority for Newcastle, who instead have their sights firmly focused on Toni Kroos. As per the report, the Tyneside club have reserved €30 million to make their move for the Real Madrid midfielder, who is viewed as the catalyst to deliver the big titles in the short term.
It goes without saying that Kroos will be a major upgrade over not just every midfielder at St. James’ Park but every single Newcastle player. However, the Magpies will need to make their move quickly to sign the German international, who is also being courted by Manchester City and Liverpool, as per recent reports.
However, it is still unclear if Real Madrid would even be open to the prospect of offloading Kroos, whose own stance over joining Newcastle remains unknown. So, it remains to be seen if the Premier League outfit can manage to prise the 31-year-old midfielder away from the Santiago Bernabeu.
