Newcastle United are reportedly aiming to sign Marcelo Brozovic, with a bumper offer on the table, while Inter Milan are trying to renew his deal.

According to Calciomercato, Newcastle United are planning an ambitious move for Marcelo Brozovic in the summer, with the 28-year-old midfielder running down his contract in Italy. His club, Inter Milan, are exploring the possibility of offering him a new contract, although time is running out.

Marcelo Brozovic has been a sensational signing for Inter Milan, having joined the Serie A giants in the summer of 2016. The Croatian midfielder has constantly strived to improve the quality of his play in the middle of the park and has become one of their most consistent performers. However, his time at San Siro might be coming to a close, with his contract expiring next summer.

Brozovic will be free to negotiate and sign a pre-contract agreement in January with foreign clubs, including Premier League sides. Inter remain keen on offering a new deal to the Croat but face a race against time to formalise their offer.

The biggest issue is the pay package on offer. The Serie A champions do not want to pay over the odds for a player approaching his 30s. Brozovic, 28, wants a contract worth around €6 million a year net, but Inter are not expected to go beyond €4.5 million, rising to €5 million net through add ons and bonuses.

While Inter remain confident of concluding a deal, Newcastle United are readying a bumper pay package offer for the 28-year-old midfielder. The Magpies’ bid could blow the Italians out of the water, as they cannot afford to match them owing to their recent financial struggles.

As Newcastle prepare to splurge in the upcoming window, they are aware of their immediate requirements: to shore up the midfield. With the quality of current players in the position questioned, the Magpies will be eager to bring in someone like Brozovic, who could fit in irrespective of which manager they appoint.

Brozovic could be tempted by such a generous offer, although he might raise concerns over the team’s quality in the short term. It could be the Croatian international’s last big contract, and he might want to make the best of the opportunity. Other big clubs are considering signing him, including Liverpool and Barcelona.

While Newcastle’s offer of a reported €7 million a year could be tempting for the Croat, he might also weigh up his other options, including Chelsea. The Blues are keen on signing a midfielder with his experience as they look to add another option in the middle of the park.

There is also reported interest from Real Madrid to shore up their midfield options. Overall, the 28-year-old midfielder will have plenty of suitors if he decides to leave Inter on a free transfer, with all the aforementioned clubs seemingly capable of meeting his financial demands.

Alternatively, he could seriously consider Inter’s offer and stay put as he has settled very well at the Serie A club over the last five years. However, if he decides to test himself in the Premier League, the options are open, although Newcastle’s €7 million a year proposal could trump the likes of Chelsea or Liverpool financially.
