Liverpool will reportedly have to fork out €15 million for the services of 24-year-old Torino defender Gleison Bremer.
According to Itatiaia journalist Thomas Reis, Liverpool are among the clubs interested in the services of Gleison Bremer. The Torino centre-back is tipped to leave the Serie A club at the end of the season, with the player valued at around €15 million.
It has put Liverpool on red alert, although the Premier League giants are set to face stiff competition from two of the biggest Serie A clubs in the form of AC Milan and Inter Milan.
Formerly of the Sao Paulo academy, like another top target for Liverpool, Antony, Bremer has enjoyed immense success since moving to Europe in 2018. In just a few years, the 24-year-old has established himself as a defensive lynchpin for Torino, with almost 100 appearances in all competitions. He is even regarded as one of the best centre-backs in Serie A.
Standing at 1.88m, the Brazilian has an imposing frame that can always be useful in the physically astute nature of the Premier League. He is quite dangerous from set-pieces and has interestingly scored 11 goals in 85 appearances for Torino.
Bremer’s physique, coupled with his defensive work rate, has not been overlooked by Jurgen Klopp, with the Liverpool boss keen on further strengthening his defensive options despite the summer acquisition of Ibrahima Konate.
It appears the German tactician is aware of the ageing nature of the defensive unit. Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk are already headed towards the final phase of their respective careers, while injuries have always been an issue for a fragile Liverpool defensive unit, even for new man Ibrahima Konate.
Bremer, at the age of just 24, could offer some much-needed youthful exuberance to the team. He can also bring that aggression and leadership quality that Liverpool often miss in the absence of van Dijk. Not to mention, the Brazilian offers a decent amount of experience at the highest level of football. And for a fee of just €15 million, he could be nothing less than a bargain.
At the same time, Liverpool will be aware of the competition from the Milan clubs. Inter Milan, for one, are in a great position to offer the Torino centre-back regular game-time, as one of their star defenders in Milan Skriniar has been linked with a move to Premier League next season.
