Bayern Munich are reportedly trying to steal a march on Real Madrid for Victor Osimhen, with a €100 million bid in the works for the Napoli striker.
According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Real Madrid are facing stiff competition from Bayern Munich in the race to sign Victor Osimhen. In fact, the Bundesliga champions are looking to move ahead of their fellow European bigwigs, with a €100 million offer being prepared to sign the Napoli striker.
Victor Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in the summer of 2020 with a lot of hype surrounding him after the Serie A giants beat a number of other big clubs to secure his services. However, the 22-year-old did not exactly make the brightest of starts to life with the Partenopei, experiencing a few teething problems initially.
The Nigerian striker, though, managed to end 2020/21 strongly and has made a strong start to the new campaign as well, with nine goals and an assist in 10 appearances across all competitions so far. His exploits have also played a part in Napoli’s perfect start to the Serie A campaign, having won each of their first eight games thus far. At the same time, it has also attracted Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
The interest from Real Madrid is interesting yet understandable, as laying down a succession plan for Karim Benzema has to be top priority despite the Frenchman’s brilliant form. While Erling Haaland is viewed as the priority target for Los Blancos to that end, the intense competition for the Borussia Dortmund striker ought to prompt them to keep their options open.
Osimhen is, therefore, a viable target for Real Madrid, although they are now facing stiff competition from Bayern Munich in pursuit of the 22-year-old. However, like Real Madrid, Bayern, too, need to be on the lookout for a striker who can be a long-term solution as the spearhead of the attacking unit.
Bayern’s interest could possibly be stemming from the fact that Robert Lewandowski is facing an uncertain future at the Allianz Arena, with Real Madrid among his suitors. As a result, the German giants need to keep their options open, making Osimhen an option worth considering, although they, too, have their sights set on Haaland.
As far as the pursuit of Osimhen is concerned, Bayern Munich are looking to steal a march on Real Madrid, with a €100 million offer being readied. What now remains to be seen is if the Merengues respond with a bid of their own or turn their attention elsewhere in search of a successor for Benzema.
