Liverpool will reportedly have to shell out a transfer fee of €40 million if they wish to sign German forward Karim Adeyemi from RB Salzburg.
According to a report from Austrian publication Sport, Liverpool have been told that it will take a bid of around €40 million in order to secure the signing of German striker Karim Adeyemi from RB Salzburg.
Having risen through the youth ranks at Unterhaching, Adeyemi signed for Salzburg in the summer of 2018 but was immediately loaned out to FC Liefering for the next eighteen months, where he managed a return of 15 goals and 12 assists in 35 matches.
Recalled to the club in January last year, the 19-year-old has thrived at Salzburg, taking over the mantle of the key scorer from the likes of Erling Haaland and Patson Daka, who both left in the last eighteen months. To date, Adeyemi has made 66 appearances for the Austrian giants, scoring 21 goals and setting up 17 more.
11 of his 21 goals have come in the ongoing campaign, with the youngster scoring at a rate of one goal every 104 minutes. Adeyemi was also part of the German national team that won the UEFA Under-21 European Championship this year, while he has also made his breakthrough into Die Mannschaft’s senior side, scoring once in three appearances.
Adeyemi’s rise to prominence with club and country have seen him attract a lot of interest from several clubs across Europe. Liverpool are among the 19-year-old’s suitors, with the Reds believed to be in the market for a new centre-forward.
Divock Origi’s future at the club is clouded with uncertainty while there have been concerns with regard to the form of Roberto Firmino as well, although the Brazilian has looked good of late. Nonetheless, with all of Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane nearing their thirties, adding another young forward to the roster would make sense for Liverpool.
Adeyemi, to that end, would be a fine choice for Jurgen Klopp & co. However, in order to sign the 19-year-old German international, Liverpool will have to shell out a transfer fee of up to €40 million, considering that his contract runs till the summer of 2024. Apart from the fee, the Reds will have to deal with interest from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund as well.
In fact, the report goes as far as mentioning that it is Bayern Munich that are in pole position to sign Adeyemi. It remains to be seen if Liverpool are able to swoop him away from under the clutches of Die Roten.
