Valencia are reportedly keen on signing Mariano Diaz in January, with the 28-year-old striker currently out of favour at Real Madrid.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Mariano Diaz has popped up on the radar of Valencia over a potential move in the January transfer window. The 28-year-old striker is surplus to requirements at Real Madrid, with Carlo Ancelotti yet to hand him a single minute of action this season.

Mariano Diaz is currently in his second stint with Real Madrid. The player first joined Los Blancos in 2011 from CF Badalona and made fine progress with their reserve sides. However, the player was never really able to establish himself as a regular for the Merengues and was sold to Lyon in the summer of 2017.

However, after just one impressive campaign with the Ligue 1 giants, the 28-year-old was re-signed by Real Madrid in 2018, only for his struggles to resume once again in the Spanish capital. Things have gone from bad to worse in the early stages of 2021/22, with Carlo Ancelotti not using him at all so far.

With Mariano’s career headed nowhere, Mariano ought to seek a new challenge in his career while he is still in his peak years. To that end, Newcastle United have been heavily linked with a potential move for the out of favour Real Madrid striker. And now, Valencia have also emerged in pursuit of the player.

The interest from Valencia is interesting but understandable, considering Maxi Gomez is facing an uncertain future at the Mestalla. Mariano, to that end, is a viable target for Los Che, considering he is also capable of playing as a wide attacker.

As per the report, Mariano might be open to joining Valencia, with the move offering him the final chance to play regularly at the peak of his powers. And if he can rediscover his best form, the 28-year-old could prove to be a masterstroke of a signing for the La Liga outfit.

Real Madrid, on their part, might not be averse to the idea of parting ways with Mariano, seeing as they are linked with a number of strikers. Most recently, Dominic Calvert-Lewin appears to have emerged on Real Madrid’s radar, and all things considered, Mariano appears set for a departure from the club. Whether he joins Valencia as his next adventure remains to be seen.
