Serie A champions Inter Milan are reportedly interested in signing Real Madrid outcast Luka Jovic in the January transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid are eager to cut their losses on Luka Jovic in the January transfer window, and will seek suitors for the Serb to that end. And Serie A champions Inter Milan are prepared to offer an escape route to both the parties, with Simone Inzaghi an admirer of his talents.
Luka Jovic joined Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2019, hailed as a potential successor to Karim Benzema. However, the 23-year-old striker, who was coming off a memorable 2018/19 campaign, has done nothing to live up to his billing, although chances have come few and far between for him.
The starts were never going to be handed regularly anyway considering Benzema is playing the best football of his career. However, a tally of two goals and three assists in 38 appearances is still very underwhelming to say the least. That is why it is not surprising that Real Madrid wish to cash in on Jovic at the earliest possible opportunity, with Inter Milan among the clubs interested in him.
At San Siro, Simone Inzaghi is a keen admirer of Jovic’s talents and is of the opinion that he could turn his fortunes around by joining Inter Milan. To that end, the Serie A champions are plotting a potential January move to snap up the Real Madrid outcast.
The interest in Jovic does make some sense, considering Alexis Sanchez is facing an uncertain future at the club and could be offloaded this coming winter. To that end, Jovic is a viable target as the Serbian striker could essentially take up the spot that Sanchez would vacate.
However, the report mentions that Jovic would come in as a replacement for Romelu Lukaku, with Joaquin Correa likely to replace Sanchez stylistically. Considering he flourished in a two-striker system at Eintracht Frankfurt before joining Real Madrid, Inzaghi’s system at Inter Milan could be just what he needs to get back to his best.
Apart from the Inter Milan, Jovic is also being courted by fellow Serie A outfit Fiorentina, Arsenal, Everton and West Ham United. So, it looks like Jovic does not have a shortage of suitors despite his struggles at Real Madrid and it remains to be seen where he ends up in the January transfer window.
