Arsenal are showing an interest in Matheus Cunha, who is yet to find his feet since signing for La Liga champions Atletico Madrid in the summer.
According to Fichajes, Arsenal could inquire about the availability of Matheus Cunha, despite only signing for Atletico Madrid in the summer. The Gunners are exploring options to sign a striker in the January window or next summer, with the 22-year-old Brazilian forward possibly emerging as one of their targets.
Arsenal’s rebuild might have started rather brightly with six players signed during the summer window. Mikel Arteta is expected to turn his attention towards finding strong options for his attacking side, as several strikers see their name being linked with the north London side.
The latest links with Ollie Watkins and Dominic Calvert-Lewin might indicate that the Gunners might be ready to step up their search for a striker. Arsenal want to properly replace Alexandre Lacazette, who is expected to leave the club at the end of the season. At the same time, Eddie Nketiah, too, is ready to depart similarly.
Their departures will leave Arteta with limited options in his striking department, and the club could use it as an opportunity to acquire a player for the long-term future. Sevilla’s Youssef El-Nesyri is another name strongly linked with a move to the Emirates, with many already impressed with the Moroccan’s ability.
The latest player connected with a move to Arsenal is Matheus Cunha, who only signed for Atletico Madrid in the summer. A late arrival from Herta Berlin, the 22-year-old Brazilian forward has struggled badly to nail down a regular place in Diego Simeone’s side.
Incidentally, Simeone signed Cunha after deliberating over signing Arsenal star Lacazette but felt the reigning La Liga champions needed a younger striker instead. However, despite early promise following his move, Cunha has made limited appearances, mostly from the bench.
Atletico’s current attacking lineup is considered one of their best in a long time, and Cunha might be unable to dislodge any of those stars off their perch. If the offer is right, his situation could lead to a move away, either on loan or a permanent transfer, which brings Arsenal into the picture.
If their interest is genuine, Arsenal might not look for a loan move but make an offer to sign him permanently. They might have to pay in excess of €30 million, as Atletico will look to profit from their initial outlay on the Brazilian forward.
Arsenal’s main problem last season was the number of goals scored. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang faltered throughout the season, and Arteta might want someone more prolific, like El-Nesyri. The 22-year-old is not that type of striker, as his less than prolific form over the years has shown.
The Brazilian forward is one of the many options on Arsenal’s shortlists for a striker. Even then, the Gunners might explore their options and possibly explore with La Liga champions Atletico Madrid over the striker’s availability, either in January or next summer.
