Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing Toni Kroos, with Jurgen Klopp eager for the Reds to secure the services of the Real Madrid icon.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Toni Kroos is the subject of interest from Liverpool over a move in next summer’s transfer window. Jurgen Klopp is a long-term admirer of his compatriot, who is valued at around €25 million by Real Madrid.
Toni Kroos joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014 after coming ever so close to making his way to Manchester United instead. The switch to the Spanish capital has done wonders for his career, as he has blossomed into one of the best midfielders of all time while playing a key role in the Merengues’ success over the last seven years.
A winner of 13 trophies during his stint at the Santiago Bernabeu, Kroos has made 322 appearances for Real Madrid while chipping in with 22 goals and 80 assists along the way. However, as he approaches the final phase of his career, a prospective suitor has emerged in his pursuit and wishes to swoop him away from Los Blancos, with Liverpool interested in him.
At Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp holds a long-standing interest in Kroos, having made a previous attempt to secure his services, only for Real Madrid to reject their advances. The interest, though, has not waned since then, and next summer could be the perfect time to land him, considering his current deal runs out in the summer of 2023.
Liverpool do appear to be in need of signing a midfielder who can possibly a short-term solution as Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones become ready to feature game in game out. That is because James Milner is in the twilight of his career while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield.
As a result, the Reds have been linked with a number of midfielders of late, including Nicolo Barella and Kalvin Phillips. Kroos, though, fits the mould perfectly, as he could come in an hit the ground running before retiring in a few years’ time. And in order to sign the Real Madrid icon, Liverpool will need to pay around €25 million.
What now remains to be seen is if the Premier League heavyweights are prepared to shell out such a sum to sign Kroos. Real Madrid’s stance on a possible sale will also be interesting to see as Kroos gets set to enter the final year of his contract next summer.
