Transfer News: Real Madrid, Liverpool face Inter Milan battle for Benjamin Sesko

Real Madrid and Liverpool will reportedly have to face competition from Inter Milan in pursuit of RB Salzburg’s teenage sensation, Benjamin Sesko.

According to a report from Spanish publication Fichajes, Real Madrid and Liverpool have been joined by Serie A champions Inter Milan in the race to sign RB Salzburg’s Slovenian striker, Benjamin Sesko.

The 18-year-old signed for the Austrian giants in the summer of 2019 from boyhood club NK Domzale and spent the last couple of seasons out on loan at FC Liefering, where he enjoyed a fruitful spell, producing 22 goals and 6 assists in 44 games. Now back at Salzburg, the 18-year-old has started the new campaign on a positive note, with seven goals and three assists in 16 games.

Based on his form in club football, Sesko also broke into the Slovenian national team in June earlier this year and has made three appearances so far, but is yet to score a goal. The 18-year-old’s unbridled potential has caught the eyes of several heavy-hitters across Europe, with Real Madrid and Liverpool said to be among them.

Real Madrid have Karim Benzema as their ace goalscorer currently, but at 33, he will eventually need to be replaced. While moves for Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland are in the works for the summer of next year, Los Blancos will also need to add quality backup to the ranks considering that both Mariano Diaz and Luka Jovic have flattered to deceive.

The out-of-favour duo could be offloaded in January or at the end of the season, creating space for someone like Sesko to arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu, where he can develop into a first-team star for the future.

Liverpool, too, are in need of a new centre-forward, with Divock Origi expected to be on his way out in the near future. With Roberto Firmino’s goal-contributions dwindling, Jurgen Klopp is on the lookout for a young and dynamic striker who can lead the Reds’ line for a number of years to come.

To that end, RB Salzburg hitman Karim Adeyemi has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield with his teammate, Sesko, also now emerging as a transfer target. However, both Real Madrid and Liverpool will have to battle it out with Inter Milan for the signing of the 18-year-old Slovenian international.

The Nerazzurri lost superstar striker Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea last summer. While they did sign Edin Dzeko and Joaquin Correa as replacements, the former is not a long-term solution by any means. In addition, Inter are also ready to part ways with Alexis Sanchez, whose downward spiral has continued in recent months.

So, a move for Sesko, who can be a signing for the present and the future, would make sense for Simone Inzaghi & co. The report adds that the 18-year-old could cost somewhere around €15-€25 million. It will be interesting to see if any of Liverpool, Real Madrid or Inter Milan decide to firm up their interest in Sesko in the coming months.
