Transfer News: Tottenham ace Tanguy Ndombele open to Real Madrid switch

Real Madrid have received a boost in pursuit of Tanguy Ndombele as the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is reportedly open to joining the Merengues.

According to a report from Spanish publication Defensa Central, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele is keen on leaving the club next year and would be open to a switch to La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid.

Ndombele has been with Tottenham for two years now having signed from Olympique Lyon in the summer of 2019 in a club-record deal. The move, however, has failed to work out as planned for all parties involved as the Frenchman has struggled to nail down a starting berth at the north London outfit.

Indeed, Ndombele found himself out of favour for most parts of former manager Jose Mourinho’s tenure, leading to him receiving minimal game-time. When he did feature, the ex-Lyon prodigy showed signs of his quality but failed to do so on a consistent basis while his off-the-ball work rate did not impress either.

The situation has not changed under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo either, with Ndombele still finding it hard to establish a foothold in the side. As a result, the France international has been heavily linked with a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since the summer transfer window itself.

There has been interest in him from clubs such as Manchester United while Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been linked with a move for the 24-year-old. Now, it is being claimed that Ndombele would be open to a switch to the Spanish capital club, handing them a major boost in his pursuit.

Real Madrid’s midfield unit is ageing and in need of a revamp. Luka Modric is very much in the twilight stages of his career while his contract runs out at the end of the season as well. Toni Kroos is no spring chicken anymore as well, and considering his injury issues this term, his game-time will need to be managed carefully going forward.

With Isco and Dani Ceballos expected to leave in the near future, there will be room for a new central midfielder at the Santiago Bernabeu in the near future. And, Ndombele, despite his issues at Tottenham, can be a handy addition. The 24-year-old has age on his side and has shown his potential during his time with Lyon.

If nurtured properly, he can grow into a world-class midfielder and go on to serve Real Madrid for years to come. With the midfielder now said to be open to joining the Merengues it will be interesting to see if they do make an approach to sign him in January or in the summer next year.
