Transfer News: Liverpool tracking Aguibou Camara

Liverpool are reportedly among the clubs scouting 20-year-old Guinean attacking midfielder Aguibou Camara who plays for Greek club Olympiacos.

According to a report from Greek publication Sportime, Liverpool are keeping tabs on the progress of Olympiacos’ versatile attacking midfielder Aguibou Camara.

The 20-year-old started out at Elephant de Coleah in his native, Guinea, before moving to Europe in 2019 when he signed from French Ligue 1 club LOSC Lille. Camara featured just one time for Les Dogues’ senior team and largely featured for the club’s reserves over the past couple of years.

In the summer earlier this year, Camara made the switch to Olympiacos and things have gone on well for the 20-year-old in Greece. So, far the Guinean midfielder has featured 10 times for his new club, scoring two goals and setting up one more.

The youngster impressed quite a fair bit during Olympiacos’ UEFA Champions League group game against Fenerbahce, during which a number of scouts from clubs across Europe were in attendance. A member from Liverpool’s scouting team is also said to have been present in the stadium and Camara has caught his eye.

In fact, in the aftermath, it has been said that the Liverpool scout asked for information on the 20-year-old as the Reds plan to keep scouting him as per the report. Liverpool are in the market for a new attacking midfielder as has been indicated by their recent links to Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.

The Merseyside giants have also been credited with an interest in RB Leipzig’s Hungarian attacking midfielder, Dominik Szoboszlai, with Camara, a player of a similar profile, now registering on their radars. The 20-year-old is primarily an attack-minded midfielder adept at playing as a No. 10, but is capable of playing out wide while he can also play in a withdrawn role in the middle of the park as well.

This sort of versatility would make him a good fit at Liverpool as he would be able to add depth across multiple positions on the pitch and potentially fill the void someone like Xherdan Shaqiri has left, before eventually growing into a regular for the first-team.

It remains to be seen if the interest from Liverpool leads to something substantial. For now, though, they are keeping a close watch on the 20-year-old Camara, who also has three caps for the Guinean national team.
