Transfer News: Tottenham, Aston Villa interested in Julian Alvarez

Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are set to battle it out with European clubs for the pursuit of Julian Alvarez in January.

According to the latest report from Calciomercato, European clubs are on high alert as they closely monitor the situation of Julian Alvarez. The highly-rated River Plate forward is facing an uncertain future at the club and is expected to leave in the upcoming January transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are the two English clubs chasing his signature, but they are set to face stiff competition from the likes of Bayer Leverkusen, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund among many others.

A product of the River Plate youth academy, Alvarez has turned a lot of heads with his performances in the Argentine top-flight. After gaining promotion to the senior side in January 2019. the youngster has netted 23 goals in 85 competitive appearances.

The forward has really upped his game this season, having scored as many as seven goals in 11 league appearances while also notching up four assists. His exploits in front of goal have helped River Plate remain on top of the Liga Profesional league table.

Alvarez’s performances haven’t gone unnoticed either, it seems, with Aston Villa are now ready to snap him up in January. It appears the Argentine prodigy has been identified as an ideal alternative for Danny Ings, with the club intent on signing a younger option who can eventually replace the ageing Englishman in the future.

The Villans have been already linked with other young strikers like Eddie Nketiah, though they could face stiff competition from Leeds United, in the pursuit of the Arsenal prodigy.

Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, are on the hunt for a new striker who can prove to be an ideal replacement for Harry Kane. The English international is tipped to leave the club next summer, with Manchester City remaining keen on his services despite a poor start to the campaign.

A youngster like Julian Alvarez fits the bill perfectly due to his feisty nature and undisputed goalscoring prowess. At the age of just 21, the Argentine also has the time on his side to further improve his game and become one of the nation’s leading centre forwards.

Interestingly, though, Tottenham have been linked with a move to Alvarez’s compatriot in Mauro Icardi recently. The PSG forward hasn’t enjoyed much success since his move to Paris, but he does bring more experience to the table, so it will be interesting to see how the Lilywhites deal with the task of replacing Kane next season.
