Manchester United, Leeds United and Everton are reportedly among the clubs that are interested in 18-year-old Getafe whizkid John Patrick.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, John Patrick is the subject of interest from Manchester United, Leeds United and Everton. The Red Devils, in particular, have been closely monitoring the 18-year-old Irish whizkid for a long time, with Burnley also keen on swooping him away from Getafe.
John Patrick spent his formative years at several clubs, including Real Madrid. Born and brought up in Madrid, the youngster spent a couple of years at La Fabrica before finally ending up at Getafe in 2018 via Canillas and Alcobendas. And after making swift progress at Getafe, he broke into their first-team setup last year.
To date, Patrick has made eight appearances for the Azulones, with each those outings coming last season, as he became the youngest player ever in Getafe’s history. His progress over the last few years at the Spanish club has not gone unnoticed, with Manchester United, Leeds United and Everton among the clubs setting their sights on the Irish prodigy.
Manchester United are in a precarious position over the future of Paul Pogba, who is being pushed by his agent Mino Raiola to join Real Madrid. And Patrick could be just the kind of player to be the long-term replacement for the Frenchman, seeing as he is capable of playing on the wings as well as a box-to-box midfielder.
Leeds United, on the other hand, have been keen on bolstering their midfield since the summer, having unsuccessfully attempted to sign Lewis O’Brien and Conor Gallagher. O’Brien once again appears to be a target for the Whites, who also have Nahitan Nandez in their sights. John Patrick, though, is a viable target as well for Leeds.
As far as Everton are concerned, Tom Davies has recently been linked with a potential switch to Crystal Palace, which would open up a spot in their midfield unit. With that in mind, Patrick is an option worth considering as well, with the 18-year-old Irish whizkid also popping up on Burnley’s radar.
As per the report, Manchester United have scouted Patrick extensively while his contract with Getafe runs out next summer. So, a Bosman move could well be in the offing or alternatively, his suitors could also target a cut-price move keeping the January transfer window in mind.
For now, Patrick has had himself reassigned to Getafe B in order to continue his progress by securing regular game-time. Meanwhile, he has also committed himself to the Irish national side, having been eligible to represent Spain and Cameroon as well. As for his future, it remains to be seen if he ends up making his way to Manchester United or if Leeds, Everton or Burnley land the 18-year-old instead.
