Transfer News: Tottenham monitoring Lorenzo Insigne

Tottenham are keeping their eyes on Lorenzo Insigne’s situation with Napoli and could be in line to make an offer to the Italy international in January.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are admirers of Lorenzo Insigne and are keeping tabs on the Napoli captain’s situation. The Italy international is out of a contract next summer, as Spurs could offer him personal terms in January.

The situation with Napoli and Lorenzo Insigne is unprecedented as the Italian side could lose their captain on a free transfer next summer. The player will be free to talk with teams in January as there could be plenty of interest from some of the top clubs across Europe.

Recently, Crystal Palace were reportedly prepared to make an ambitious effort to sign the Napoli captain next summer. Patrick Vieira would love to have an experienced player of his calibre on board. However, the London side might have a low probability of signing Insigne as many other big Premier League sides could enter the chase.

Insigne and Napoli have been holding talks over a new contract, and the player was not impressed by their previous offer. The Serie A side have reportedly made a new offer for Insigne to consider, and as reported by sources, discussions should continue between both parties.

Some of the interested clubs had known of this impasse throughout the summer as Napoli received several advances for the player’s signature. The Italian side held on to their star man and are hoping he agrees to the new contract on offer.

Clubs like Tottenham are waiting on the wings to pounce at the opportunity to sign Insigne on a free transfer. The north London club’s Technical Director Fabio Paratici knows the player and his qualities pretty well to sanction a move. The club could negotiate with the Euro 2020 winner as soon as January if the impasse with Napoli continues.

Spurs, under Paratici, are increasingly looking into Serie A stars to come to join them. Cristian Romero and Pierluigi Gollini joined this summer from Atalanta while they held plenty of talks with other targets from the league. However, signing the 30-year-old Insigne would be a big coup for the Premier League side.

Despite Spurs’ stuttering form in the last few seasons, they remain an attractive destination for players from overseas. The lure of the Premier League and playing for a club in London is a big factor for many players. For Insigne, it would be a challenging prospect to help Tottenham re-establish itself among the elites.

Like Palace, Tottenham too could become an option for Insigne, who will certainly attract interest from other big clubs if he decides to quit Napoli next summer.
