Transfer News: Crystal Palace monitoring Lorenzo Insigne

Lorenzo Insigne could be on the move as Crystal Palace join a host of clubs that hope to take advantage of his contractual situation with Napoli.

According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Crystal Palace could explore signing Napoli attacker Lorenzo Insigne in the next windows. The Italian star is at a standstill with his contractual negotiations at Naples, with a remote possibility of being available for a transfer in January.

Lorenzo Insigne has been one of the standout players for Napoli and recently starred in Italy’s victorious campaign at the Euros. Having spent his entire career with the Partenopei, it’s quite bemusing that the club have not offered an extension sooner. There is an offer on the table from the Serie A side, but it’s not to the player’s liking.

And, with the contract impasse continuing throughout the summer, the fears of leaving the club in the next phase are growing rapidly, as there’s no shortage of suitors. Premier League clubs have admired the Italian for years and might be able to lure him with a decent enough contract for his liking.

The likes of Crystal Palace, Wolves and Tottenham are all reportedly interested. Everton took a step closer last summer but baulked at Napoli’s €30 million asking price for the player.

Barcelona are also reportedly keeping tabs, while Atletico Madrid have been long-term admirers of Insigne’s talent. However, in the last few days and according to notable journalist Ekrem Konur, Crystal Palace has shown some serious interest in the Italian.

Palace have embarked on a rebuild of their squad this season under new manager Patrick Vieira. They managed to sign plenty of promising young talent from within the Premier League for most parts. However, the manager will now move into the next phase by signing experienced stars to improve them further.

Insigne could become that sort of player who will complement the experienced stars at the club, such as Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha. With Insigne not expected to have a shortage of options next summer, it remains to be seen if he wants to move to a developing club such as Palace, where he could easily move to a bigger club.

However, the lure of playing in the Premier League and London could influence this decision. Someone like the Italian international could end up being a huge coup for the Eagles should they be successful in their pursuit of him.
