Crystal Palace have reportedly set their sights on Everton midfielder Tom Davies over a potential move in the future.
According to a report by Football Insider, Tom Davies is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace over a possible move in a future transfer window. The Eagles are currently tracking the 23-year-old midfielder’s situation at Everton, with talks over a new deal stagnating.
Tom Davies joined Everton as an 11-year-old back in 2009 before subsequently making swift progress in the youth setup at the Merseyside club. The Englishman broke into the first-team squad in the 2015/16 season, making his senior debut aged just 18. Since then, though, his development has been rather slow.
To date, the 23-year-old has made 155 appearances for Everton, chipping in with six goals and eight assists along the way. Of late, though, a major chunk of his starts have come in cup competitions while in the Premier League, he tends to be used off the bench. Nevertheless, Davies’s stock does not seem to have fallen much in the eyes of prospective suitors, one of whom are Crystal Palace.
The Eagles did bolster their midfield department in the summer transfer window by signing Will Hughes and Conor Gallagher (on loan). However, it is important to note that Luka Milivojevic, James McArthur and Cheikhou Kouyate are all in their thirties now, and could well be phased out a few years down the line.
In addition, Gallagher, who has been attractive the biggest clubs in Europe lately, and is unlikely to join Crystal Palace permanently. So, it is not hard to see why the south Londoners might be in the transfer market for a midfield reinforcement, with Davies a viable target.
As per the report, there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the 23-year-old’s future at Everton, with the player set to enter the final year of his current deal next summer. And with talks over a new contract being frustratingly slow, Crystal Palace could be in business in pursuit of Davies.
For now, the English midfielder has popped up on the radar of the Eagles, who will be monitoring his situation at Everton closely. However, it remains to be seen if Davies’s tryst with the Toffees comes to an end anytime soon or if he stays put at Goodison Park.
